Thonet

Germany

Thonet is a traditional furniture manufacturer based in Frankenberg (Germany), founded in 1819 by Michael Thonet. The company became famous for the development of curved wooden chairs, in particular model no. 14 - the so-called Viennese coffee house chair. From the 1930s onwards, Thonet also made its mark on tubular steel furniture design, in collaboration with Bauhaus architects such as Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. To this day, Thonet continues to produce timeless classics and contemporary designs with a high level of craftsmanship.
