Kartell
Italy
Kartell is an Italian design company founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli (and Anna Castelli Ferrieri) near Milan. Kartell began in the 1950-60s with colourful plastic household goods, later adding lighting, furniture and modular systems such as the iconic "Componibili" cabinet. With plastic innovations such as transparent polycarbonate production - for example the first mass-produced transparent chairs - Kartell redefined modern design. Claudio Luti has managed the company since 1988 and brought designers such as Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola and Antonio Citterio on board.
