Designer
b. 1903
Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) was a French architect and designer. In the 1920s, she worked in the studio of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret and designed early modernist furniture, including tubular steel furniture for modern living spaces. She later developed furniture and interiors made of wood and natural materials and worked in Japan for many years. Her works are among the most influential designs of 20th century modern furniture design.
b. 1887
Le Corbusier (1887-1965) was a Swiss-French architect, designer and urban planner. He is considered one of the most influential representatives of modern architecture. He became famous for buildings such as the Villa Savoye and the Unité d'Habitation as well as furniture classics such as the LC2 armchair. His ideas on functional, clear design language still characterise architecture and design today.
b. 1896
Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967) was a Swiss architect and designer. He worked closely with his cousin Le Corbusier and was involved in numerous modernist projects. He became particularly well known for his work in Chandigarh, India, where he designed architecture and furniture for the new capital of Punjab in the 1950s. His robust wooden chairs and tables for administrative buildings and public facilities are now regarded as classics of modern furniture design.
